Scrap Tire Fee Reauthorization and Grants Program 

Eligible organizations can apply for funding for eligible projects through the Missouri Scrap Tire program. Application information can be found below:  

Types of Grants  
  • Non-Playground Scrap Tire Material Grants: For projects like running tracks, walking trails, equine/livestock stalls, benches, and similar surfacing projects. 
  • Playground Scrap Tire Surface Material Grants: Specifically for playground mats or surfaces. 
Application Process
  • Deadline: MDNR accepts applications via mail or online through the Funding Opportunities Portal.  
  • New funding portal users must submit a Funding Opportunities Portal Access Request to establish access and use the portal. 
  • Eligibility: Public schools, private schools, parks, non-profit day care centers, and other non-profit and governmental organizations can apply. 
  • Projects: Must use at least 40% Missouri-generated scrap tires and be located within the state. 
  • Award Amounts: Vary based on project type, with approximately $400,000 available for non-playground projects and $600,000 for playgrounds. 
  • Grant Management: Recipients must execute a Financial Assistance Agreement with the department before commencing any work.
